AKA Peace: Contemporary artists unite for Peace One Day, 26–30 September

AKA Peace is a new project curated by Jake Chapman in collaboration with non-profit organisation Peace One Day.

AKA Peace presents artworks in the form of decommissioned and customised AK-47 assault rifles by artists including Damien Hirst, Antony Gormley, Jeremy Deller, Tim Noble & Sue Webster, Gavin Turk, Stuart Semple, Sarah Lucas and Sam Taylor-Wood.

The project, which coincides with Peace Day: Friday 21 September, aims to raise awareness of Peace Day and raise funds for Peace One Day’s Global Truce 2013 campaign.

We are holding a very special ICA Members’ View on Thursday 2 August, 7-9pm at the Great Eastern Street Car Park, Shoreditch, London, EC2A 3ER. RSVP to membership@ica.org.uk by 27th July to reserve a space for you and a guest.

This pop-up exhibition is an exciting collaboration with BMW and London 2012 Festival which brings the BMW Art Car Collection to the UK for the first time. The ICA is working with emerging names in design from the east end to create a unique project, including Julia, Loop.pH and My Beautiful City.

And, today at 12:30, ICA Members are also invited to a free preview screening of Eames – The Architect and The Painter, a striking documentary which takes a detailed look at American designer Charles Eames.

Throughout the exhibition Remote Control, the ICA’s Lower Gallery is temporarily reconstructed as a symbolic archive of material – both audio-visual and physical – that looks at mapping the structure of information dissemination and offers a possible prehistory to the networked environment of today. Within this newly commissioned installation designed by Berlin-based artist Simon Denny, the artist has brought together a matrix of ideas surrounding alternative approaches to media, spatial distribution and ecology, as well as conceived a platform for displaying a selection of video works from the past 40 years.
