This Saturday, we’re screening a special preview of Matthew Akers compelling documentary, Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present, free to ICA Members.
The film focuses on her 2010 performance and retrospective at MoMA – her longest durational piece to date, sitting motionless for three months. Visitors were invited to sit with the artist for as long as they chose, becoming a part of the artwork. Matthew Akers’ film depicts a career spanning almost forty years, generating controversy at every turn as a result of Abramović’s passionate, confrontational, and often bloody performance pieces, using her own body as the subject, object and medium of the work.
Now a grandee of the art world, she remains a magnetic figure, offering frank commentary on her art and her life amidst the preparations for her retrospective.
